QUIPPY

A Strategic Wordplay Card Game

Quippy is an engaging table-top card came that challenges players to craft words aligning with specific objectives, each of which corresponds to a distinct part of speech (e.g., verb, adjective, noun). Through strategic gameplay, Quippy not only entertains but also reinforces players’ understanding of English language mechanics, making it both mentally engaging and enjoyable.

The final deliverable is a fully developed tabletop card game designed to teach or reinforce players' existing knowledge of language. Through rapid prototyping and user testing, the game has been refined for optimal functionality, engagement, and educational value.

Deliverable

I was tasked with creating a complete game—including its rules, gameplay, and design—with the specific requirement that it also have an educational aspect. This challenge pushed me to think beyond the fundamental principles of fun that most games focus on, requiring me to design a game that was both engaging and instructional.

Approach & Outcome

Through extensive play-testing with diverse groups, I was able to refine the game’s rules and mechanics. I made several modifications and even removed some features I was initially attached to. This process not only improved the overall user experience but also taught me how to adapt a concept to appeal to a broad audience.

Rapid Prototype Deck

This deck of cards (left) served as a prototype to test how the game would function overall. These cards were made with zero design in order to quickly adjust anything as needed. After every round of play testing I would adjust the prototyped cards accordingly.
